It’s hard to believe a new year is here already! If you haven’t made any resolutions yet, it’s still not too late to lay out a plan for better skin care habits in 2015. Moisturizing regularly, wearing SPF every day and removing your makeup before bed are just a few of the skin care habits many people need to improve. Keep reading to learn what skin care resolutions you should be making and how to stick with them.
1.Wear SPF Every Day
SPF is always important, even in the middle of winter when the air isn’t hot. You don’t even need to wear actual sunscreen to protect yourself. Many moisturizers, creams and makeup products contain SPF. Daily use of SPF will help prevent sun damage, wrinkles and even the development of skin cancer. Even if you spend most of your day indoors, SPF is still important, as rays from the sun still can come in windows and harm your skin.
2.Moisturize Regularly – Especially After Showering or Bathing
You should moisturize your face and body at least once a day, especially during the winter. It is especially important to moisturize after you shower or bathe. Warm water actually removes oil from your skin, so moisturizing immediately after you shower or bathe will help keep your skin constantly saturated. One way you can avoid forgetting to moisturize in the new year is to place your bottle of moisturizer right next to the shower. The best moisturizers to use for your body are ones that are oil-based. For your face, stick to moisturizers that are specifically labelled as such.
3.Remove Makeup Before Bed
Keeping your makeup on while you sleep can cause a number of problems. First of all, leftover makeup can mix with your skin oils, making clogged pores and acne much more likely. Old makeup can also dry out your skin and leave it looking flaky. Your skin needs to breathe while you sleep. In order to avoid sleeping with your makeup on in the new year, try keeping your makeup remover or wipes right next to your bed. That way if you forget before you lie down, you won’t have any excuse not to take it off.
4.Avoid Touching Your Face
Putting your hands on your face and picking at pimples, moles or scars can be a hard habit to break. But every time your fingers touch your face you are putting pore-clogging dirt and oil on your skin. If you do feel the urge to touch your face, make it a point to wash your hands before doing so. A good way to try and break the habit is to touch something else, like a squeeze toy, when you want to touch or pick at your face.
5.Visit a Dermatologist
If you experience any type of skin problem – such as acne, rosacea, or sun damage – you should make it a goal for 2015 to visit a dermatologist. Your doctor will be able to recommend a skin care regimen designed to work specifically for the condition of your skin. Your doctor may even prescribe prescription medication or recommend laser treatments for more severe cases.
